Six TV Shows I am Currently Watching
It is no secret how much I enjoy a good TV show. In fact, my spare time is split between crafting, baking, reading and yes, watching TV. There are great shows out there, like Game of Thrones or Mad Men, that have made their mark on the viewers. It even seems that networks are engaged in this new race of who will draw as many viewers to their shows. And so, new shows keep popping in, trying to make their place among old favorites.

Below you will find my current favorite shows, in no particular order. I have only included shows that are currently airing, to avoid a long tribute to all my favorite shows. One can expect a sequel to this post in a few months, as new seasons are released.

The Arrangement - Tv Show
The Arrangement

1. The Arrangement

This is a brand new show by E! Network. It tells the story of actress Megan Morrison who lands a Cinderella-esque date with movie star Kyle West while auditioning for her dream role. As the relationship progresses, she is offered a $10 million marriage contract and membership into Kyle's secretive self-help organization, The Institute of the Higher Mind, which has a retreat-like campus in Malibu. Megan, though, has a mysterious past she is trying to keep hidden and has to decide how far she is willing to go to help launch her career.

So far 4 episodes are out of the first season, and I am loving the drama, which will explore the darker side of celebrity. Also very happy to see Dallas own Josh Henderson and The Walking Dead Christina Evangelista as main characters of this show. That and Michael Vartan's comeback to the screen, makes this new drama a very inciting one!
PS: It appears that the show was inspired by Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise marriage - which apparently was an arrangement! Who knew?

2. Riverdale

Riverdale is an American teen drama television series based on the characters by Archie Comics. Archie Andrews starts the school year with the world weighing on his shoulders. He's decided he wants to pursue a future in the music business, but his recently ended clandestine relationship with the music teacher has left him without a mentor, and his friendship with Jughead Jones is in a bad place. Things look like they might be turning around when Veronica Lodge, a new girl, arrives. Despite the instant chemistry, Veronica is hesitant to risk a friendship with Betty -- who has a crush on Archie -- to pursue anything. Amidst all the small-town banality lurks a mystery: the recent tragic death of Jason Blossom, the twin brother of beautiful and popular troublemaker, Cheryl. (Google)

I'll be honest, I first started to watch this show last week, as boredom struck me. However, I quickly found the show to have some charm. It is a bit of a crossroad between Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl with a lot of mystery infused into each episode.

The Originals

3. The Originals

The Originals is not a new show, but it has at last returned for its 4th season! The show is a spinoff of the Vampire Diaries and follows the story of the Original vampire family - the Mikhaelsons. Season 4 picks up five years after the last episode of Season 3, and pursues on the same themes of riavlry, Witch/Vampires coexistence in the French Quarters of New Orleans, and a new threat that is on its way and may be in the form of Klaus's daughter - Hope.

I have been waiting for season 4 to begin, and now that it has, I am so happy! The show is as good as it was when the first season was released and I am happy to see that it has not turned into the melodrama that is The Vampire Diaries.

Big Little Lies Tv Show HBO
Big Little Lies

4. Big Little Lies

Big Little Lies is HBO's new miniseries based on the novel by Liane Moriarty of the same name. The show weaves a darkly comedic tale of murder and mischief in the tranquil beachfront town of Monterey, Califonia. Amidst doting moms, successful husbands, beautiful children, and stunning homes exists a community fueled by rumors and divided into haves and have-nots, exposing fractured relationships between husbands and wives, parents and children, and friends and neighbors. Told through the eyes of three mothers -- Madeline, Celeste and Jane -- the series' narrative explores society's myths regarding perfection and its romanticization of marriage, sex, parenting and friendship. (Google)

HBO knows how to make you happy. Its shows are all very well thought out and executed, making you want to stick around for some more. With Big Little Lies, they have again hit the jackpot. Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley star as the three prominent "mothers of Monterey" and make of this show a must watch on your list. This is another show that has a theme around a murder, which the victim and the culprit are still unknown to the viewer.  The cast is stellar, and the  storyline is also amazing.

The Americans - TV Show Season 5 Poster
The Americans

5. The Americans

I have previously raved to you about The Americans, and could not help but include them in my list. The show has now returned for its fifth season and the momentum has picked up quite a bit.

For those not familiar with this amazing show (I rank it as high as Game of Thrones), it tells the story of Philip and Elizabeth Jennings who are two KGB spies in an arranged marriage, posing as Americans in suburban Washington, D.C., shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected president. The couple have two children, Paige and Henry, who are unaware of their parents' true identities until they tell Paige after some time has passed (Season 4). The complex marriage becomes more passionate and genuine each day but is continually tested as the Cold War escalates. As Philip begins to warm up to America's values and way of life, his relationship with Elizabeth becomes more complicated. Further complicating things is the arrival of the Jennings' neighbor, FBI agent Stan Beeman, who is part of a new division of the agency tasked with fighting foreign agents on U.S. soil.

The show is so good that I just can't find enough words to describe it. I love the attention to detail present in each episodes, as well as the fact that all the KGB agents speak real Russian.  The cast is stellar, and Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys's acting is just what we needed.

To Walk Invisible: The Brontë Sisters

6. To Walk Invisible: The Brontë Sisters

Last but not least is the new Masterpiece show To Walk Invisible: The Brontë Sisters. As you can imagine, this show tells the story of the Brontë sisters, in the eventful three-year period that saw them rise from ordinary, unmarried women, taking care of the household and their widowed father, to the secret authors of the world’s most sensational literature.

The first episode just aired this past Sunday, and like all Masterpiece productions, was a pleasure to my eyes. Already looking forward to next Sunday!
