 Good morning ladies!

Today is a special day, a day where we get to celebrate ourselves, and how awesome we - women- are! I am sure we don't need just one day to remind us of all we are capable of achieving, but it is important to have one day that reminds others that yes, we matter.

This year's Women's Day campaign is "Make it Happen", and as such I want to share a few words of encouragement to each one of you, out there, reading this post.

Being a woman, regardless of our socio-economical status, is hard. There are all these expectations that we have to meet, places we have to occupy, roles we have to play. Doesn't that make a lot of "have to"s? I think it does. I don't believe we have to do anything or be anything we don't want to. As women, I believe we are the guardians of the societies, because, let's face it, without us, many societies would crumble. Women bear children, educate them, inspire generations. Women work hard everyday and everywhere, and they deserve the recognition and to be given freedom of their actions and thoughts. I believe we shouldn't compromise on our rights to reach our goals. We should just work towards them despite what others might or might not say. But before we can all get there, I think it is important that we, as women, stop criticizing each other on things that really are not important. Stop bullying one another because of the looks, and instead foster meaningful dialogs and positive thoughts that will free all of us from censure, and enable us to reach our life-aspirations. Let's be one another's support system. Let's respect one another, and love ourselves. It is only though love and compassion that all the doors will open to us.

Today is the day to bring to the table everything that you, as a woman, want to achieve and see accomplished in your life and around you. Today is the day to start taking stand on what you truly believe and stop being carried by the current of other's ideas. As Mahatma Gandhi said many moons ago, "be the change you want to see in the world". Don't let anyone bully you, shame you, or deter you from being the best version of yourself. Be kind to yourself and to your neighbors, for you don't know the battles everyone is facing. Offer a compassionate ear without rushing into judgment. Practice a positive attitude and most importantly be your own hero. Don't rely on others to make you happy, instead work hard towards your own happiness. Don't blame others for your discontent or unhappiness; instead get up and change your fate, because, in the end, everything lies in your hands.

So let's all pledge today to make it happen, shall we? Regardless of how big or small your goals are, let's pledge today to always stand up for ourselves, to take chances, to dare, to love and to always strive to reveal the amazing woman that lies in each one of us.

Happy International Women's Day to all of you and may you never stop until you've reached the stars!

  1. Very beautifully written! As you say, let's start with ourselves and be the best versions of ourselves. If we can achieve that we will certainly inspire those around us. Here's to women!
